Hi,

I'm Ashton and your typical 13 year old. I live in Dade City, Florida. I got Vitiligo when I was 10. It started on my left leg as a rash and within 1 week I had lost at least 50% of the pigment on that leg. We visited the dermatologist and they said there's nothing that can be done. So, I could and would hide my spots from everyone just to keep them from asking what is that. See I could put on jeans and no one knew about my spots.

Then in 2004 I saw the AVRF commercial on TV. I was so excited to see other kids like me. My Mom and I went to the 10 th year anniversary AVRF seminar. I got to meet all the kids like me. Mom and I found out that there were treatments out there and we went home that year with so much information and a new understanding about Vitiligo.

We attend most all of the functions that AVRF holds and try to help out with all the fundraisers to help find a cure, but most of all AVRF helped me be myself and be happy to show my special spots. I play sports, wear shorts and enjoy all my time in the Florida sun with protection of course. And now if anyone ask me I proudly explain my spots and tell them all about AVRF.
